About Wapda

A parliamentary act established the Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) in 1958. It is an autonomous statutory body under the administrative control of the federal government. The authority is composed of the chairman and the three members (finance, water, and power). The duties of Wapda’s Power Wing were reorganized into Hydel Power Generation and Power House Operation and Maintenance (O&M) following its separation in 2007. Since its power wing was unbundled, WAPDA has been responsible for the effective development of water and hydropower resources.

The Water Wing performed the following duties:

• Processing development initiatives and programs for the appropriate fora’s approval.
• Evaluate and analyze the yearly development budget for projects in the water sector, as well as the budgets of organizations involved in the water industry.
• Provide materials for the creation of perspective, medium-term, and annual plans.
• The following entities collaborate with the Water Wing of WAPDA: Federal Ministries, Provincial Irrigation and Agriculture Departments, concerned Government of AJ&K departments, NAs, Federally Administered Tribal Areas, Pakistan Commissioner for Indus Waters, Office of the Chief Engineering Advisor/Chairman Federal Flood Commission, International Waterlogging and Salinity Research Institute.
• Processing consulting agreements for projects involving water resources and flood management in order to obtain ministry permission.
• Monitoring of projects for flood control and the development of water resources.

Eligibility Criteria:

Education: A bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering from a university with HEC accreditation.
