About National Accountability Bureau NAB
The highest anti-corruption body in Pakistan is the National Accountability Bureau NAB. Its task is to eradicate corruption by using a comprehensive strategy that combines awareness-raising, prevention, and enforcement. The National Accountability Ordinance of 1999 governs its operations. Its seven regional offices are located in Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta, Rawalpindi, Multan, and Sukkur. The organization’s headquarters are in Islamabad. It recognises all offences specified by the National Accountability Ordinance (NAO).
The detection, investigation, and prosecution of white-collar crime were the only emphasis of its functions for the first three years. Politicians, public servants, and other individuals who either engaged in egregious power abuses or who used other corrupt methods to defraud the national exchequer of millions of dollars are among those facing legal action. NAB initiated the National Anticorruption Strategy (NACS) project in February 2002. The NACS team engaged local stakeholders, carried out extensive polls, and examined external models of foreign anti-corruption organizations. Every pillar of the National Integrity System was thoroughly examined. Following the identification of the root causes of corruption in each pillar, a thorough approach and an elaborate action plan were suggested.
